Birmingham Post Shortlist Wadsworths Solicitors for Top Business Award

Wadsworths solicitors have reached the finals of the Birmingham Post Business Awards 2018 after being nominated in the category of “Outstanding Contribution to the Community”. The annual awards aim to celebrate success, recognise achievement and highlight the innovative people and companies in Birmingham who are putting the region on the map by boosting the economy while making a positive contribution to the local community.

The awards final, which will take place at The ICC, Broad St, Birmingham on Thursday 1st November, will be attended by hundreds of Birmingham’s business elite.

New Additions to the Wadsworths Team

Wadsworths Solicitors added another two members to its outstanding team this week, recruiting staff for two growing departments.

Suraiya Isaac has joined as a solicitor and Head of Commercial Litigation and Harriet Muffett as a paralegal in the Commercial Property Department.

John Wadsworth, Managing Director and Head of Litigation said “We’re delighted to welcome Suraiya and Harriet to the company at what is proving to be a very exciting year for us.”

Suraiya graduated from the University of Warwick with an honours degree in law and completed her Law Society Finals (now LPC) at the College of Law in 1991. She trained with Edge and Ellison in London and Birmingham. On qualification she worked with Hammond Suddards. Both firms have since merged into Squire Patton Boggs. As a result, Suraiya gained the highest quality of training and work experience with some of the world’s leading lawyers. Suraiya went on to work with Harrison Clark (now Rickerbys). Suraiya has worked with both plc’s and owner managed companies . She is renowned for providing pragmatic solution orientated legal advice all encompassed with a high level of client care.

She said: “Wadsworths are an established firm in Solihull with an excellent reputation for client care and serving their local community which mirror my own core values. Wadsworths are perfectly positioned for growth in the commercial client arena and I am looking forward to advising existing and new clients and I am excited to be joining a competent and entrepreneurial team to contribute to this growth.

Harriet Muffett will be working alongside Chris Dingley, Head of Commercial Property as the department continues to get busier following its formation in early 2017.

Harriet said: “I’ve been made to feel very welcome during my first few days at the firm and I’m really looking forward to learning from Chris and the rest of the Wadsworths team.”

Wadsworths Solicitors have been based in Shirley, Solihull for over 30 years. They have recently been named as one of the UK’s Top 100 Small Businesses 2018 by SmallBiz100 and acknowledged for their work supporting the local community.

Wadsworths Recognised as Top 100 Business

Wadsworths Solicitors has been named as one of the UK’s top ‘Small Biz 100’ by Small Business Saturday. Wadsworths has been selected as a trail-blazer in the official count-down to Small Business Saturday, which takes place across the UK on 1 December 2018.

The achievements and contribution to the local community of Wadsworths will be celebrated and spotlighted on one the 100 days running-up to Small Business Saturday. This is part of the campaign’s mission to celebrate small business success, and encourage the nation to ‘shop local’ and support British small businesses.

The 2018 Small Biz 100 are drawn from every corner of the UK and reflect the vibrancy of the UK’s 5.5 million small businesses. Reflecting the latest in innovative start-up trends, from ethical shopping, through to Artificial Intelligence, this year’s Small Biz 100 features a range of unique independent businesses. This year’s cohort joins hundreds of previous Small Biz 100 alumni champions, which have been celebrated by the iconic campaign since its UK launch in 2013.

In its sixth year Small Business Saturday is the UK’s most successful small business campaign, which last year saw an estimated £748m spent with small businesses across the UK on Small Business Saturday.

A grassroots, not-for-profit campaign, Small Business Saturday was originally founded by American Express in the U.S. in 2010. American Express remains the principal supporter of the campaign in the UK, as part of its on-going commitment to encourage consumers to shop small.

The #SmallBizSatUK campaign trended at number one in the UK on Twitter during 2017, reaching over 115 million people globally. The Prime Minister and the Mayor of London were among those publically supporting the campaign. Over 87% of local councils also supported the campaign.

Small Business Saturday also benefits from the backing of leading business organisations including the Federation of Small Businesses and Enterprise Nation. The campaign is also supported by Amazon, Indeed, Royal Mail, Vistaprint, Xerox, and Square.

Small Business Saturday 2018 is open to all businesses to participate in, and will commence its regional bus tour roadshow across the UK during the autumn, to drum up further support.
